Advanced Cataract Surgery

Epic Vision doctors and surgeons are among the best and most experienced in Oklahoma City at detecting cataracts and performing Cataract Surgery.

Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens, formed when protein in the lens begins to clump together. Most often, cataracts are generally painless and occur due to the aging process. They are the leading cause of blindness among people older than 55.

If you are experiencing the following cataract symptoms, you should schedule a full eye exam at Epic Vision.

  • Blurred vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Halos around lights
  • Impaired night vision
  • Yellowing or fading of color vision
  • Double vision
  • Changes in eyewear prescription

If an Epic Vision eye care specialist determines you have cataracts, you may be able to improve your vision for a while with glasses or bifocals, but when your cataracts progress to the point that your vision is seriously impaired or your daily life is effected, it’s time to consider Cataract Surgery.

Cataract Surgery

Cataract Surgery is the most frequently performed surgery in the United States at more than 3 million procedures per year. It is also a very successful surgery, restoring vision to between 20/20 and 20/40 for nine out of 10 patients.

During surgery, your Epic Vision surgeon will replace your clouded natural lens with a man-made intraocular lens (IOL) to restore clear vision, near and far.

AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL

One such IOL favored by Epic Vision surgeons is an exciting new technology called AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL that consists of tiny steps, or levels, around the edge and in the center of the lens. These steps work together to bend and focus light for clear vision at all distances.

This step technology, refraction and apodized diffraction, has been used for years to build microscopes and telescopes, and has just recently been patented by Alcon for use in IOL production.

AcrySof® Toric IOL

Another IOL favored by Epic Vision surgeons is the new AcrySof® Toric IOL. The unique design makes it possible to reduce or eliminate corneal astigmatism and significantly improve uncorrected distance vision. The AcrySof® Toric lens is made of the same biocompatible lens material already successfully implanted in more than 25 million eyes since 1991.

Crystalens®

Crystalens® IOL is the first and only FDA-Approved accommodating lens implant. This lens delivers comprehensive vision quality without compromise. Unlike other lens technologies that may ask you to sacrifice near or intermediate vision, Crystalens® uses 100% of the available light rays at all distances. No lens comes closer to mirroring the function of the natural lens. Dr. Shaver is a "Center of Excellence" for Crystalens® - meaning he has done well over 100 procedures with excellent results.
